2D animation
2D animation is needed for 3D animation to exist, without 2D animation we probably would not have 3D animation. Animation is a form of using static images to portray movement and life in things that are usually inanimate or still. The first ever cartoon was created in 1908 and can be shown below, it is not very detailed in its style but it is very well animated for being the first one.

Since then 2D animation has become a huge part of daily life with media such as television and the internet using the medium to bring entertainment to people. Below is a clip from an animated TV program known as gravity falls which was aired from 2014 to 2016. As you can see we have come a long way over the past 100 years with it as technology and skills have improved, the movement is more fluid and the art style being more colourful and detailed. There are thousands of other animated shows and shorts for people to see each with their own unique art style and form of animation.
The animation below uses a style known as anime which is a huge style choice for Japanese animations, as you can see animation isn't just used for just shows, it can be used in movies (and as the video below shows) for music videos as well.
3D animation
3D animation was first introduced in 1972, almost 70 years after the first ever 2D animation. This media came around during the same time as video games due to technology beginning to shape and develop faster. As you can see there isn't much to the animation and the style is very low polygonal, however, this started off the basics for animation and as time has gone on it has grown just as 2D animation has as well.

Below are a few shorts created using the 3D software blender, the first two videos were created by content creators on YouTube to show people what blender can do, they both have tutorials on the way they have done their animation so people can follow in their footsteps and make other designs out of these videos as well.
This is an animated short created by multiple people, as you can see it is very refined in its style and not as rigid or stiff as the first animation seen at above. This is the power of what blender can do, this isn't the only 3D software though and it's not the only 3D creation, there are TV shows, movies and again music videos which use this media for entertainment purposes. Some shows (such as the amazing world of gumball) even combine both 2D and 3D animation to create a multi media production showing off how great both medias can be.
My design
For my design I shall be doing a simple 3D animation in blender, this animation will be dada inspired so I will be looking into the style of DADA and with the research from the other page, this will help me to think of an idea of what to do. The objects I will be using are a simple cube, wine glass, hand and ball. While this sounds very plain I will be morphing the objects and animating them to try and resemble real life physics whilst also mixing in a little nonsensical moments to resemble the DADA inspired work I want to create.
